Why BYOD?

Lavalla Catholic College has a strong tradition of supporting learning with modern Information Communication and Technology.

Learning environments supported by a student centred model of customised mobile technologies, are an effective means of fostering student learning.

Students are encouraged to explore a range of applications that best suit their individual learning needs.

The College will provide

  • A reliable wireless networking infrastructure with access to online learning resources and tools.
  • Educational Software including Microsoft Office 2016, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Access to Filtered Internet.
  • Lavalla’s Learning Management System (LMS) which enables students to access the College’s curriculum online.
  • Parent Portal – providing parents access to their child’s information such as financial and educational reports.

What do you need?

Laptop Device
  • Screen size must be a minimum of 13 inches (33 centimeters), measured diagonally.
  • Battery life must be a minimum of 6 hours.
  • Up-to-date Anti-Virus software.
  • The laptop must be unboxed and been through the initial setup. The college is unable to assist with setup of new devices if the computer has not been through the initial setup.
Considerations
  • USB/Wireless Mouse.
  • USB/Portable Hard Drive to backup and save files.
  • Insurance.
  • Weight as there is potential for user discomfort.
  • Carry Bag.

Window Devices

Minimum Specification
  • Operating System: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel i5 or AMD A6 (at least 2.5 Ghz).
  • Storage: 250GB Hard Drive (SSD preferred).
  • Memory (RAM): 8GB.
  • Graphics: Integrated GPU.
Recommended Specification
  • Operating System: Windows 11.
  • Processor: Intel i7 or AMD A8 (at least 2.0 Ghz)
  • Storage: 256GB Solid State Disk (SSD).
  • Memory (RAM): 8GB or more.
  • Graphics: Dedicated GPU (at least 1GB).

Apple Devices (Macbooks)

Minimum Specification
  • Operating System: Mac OS X (11.0) Big Sur.
  • Processor: Apple M1 processor.
  • Storage: 256GB Solid State Disk (SSD).
  • Memory (RAM): 8GB.
  • Graphics: Integrated GPU.

Please note that Chromebooks are unsupported, as they’re unable to run software required, such as Microsoft Office. If parents have purchased a Chromebook, they are advised to return them and purchase a Windows or Apple device that meets the specifications listed above
