VET

Lavalla Catholic College offers a wide range of Vocational Education Training (VET) courses to students.

Year 10 students can choose from a large number of on campus options in the areas such as:

  • Allied Health
  • Building and Construction
  • Business
  • Creative & Digital Media,
  • Electrical
  • Engineering
  • Laboratory Skills
  • Sport and Recreation

At Year 11 there is a wide choice encompassing on campus delivery and off campus courses delivered by outside providers one day a week. VET certificates can form part of both VCE and VCAL study programs. The majority of VET courses are at a Certificate III level and classified as VCE/VET and attract a study score that can be included when calculating a student’s ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank). Selected VET subjects also form part of the Applied Learning VCAL program at Year 10.

What is VET?

VET is considered a subject which can be undertaken as part of either the VCE or VCAL certificates.  VET provides credit towards a nationally recognised VET (TAFE level) qualification within the Australian Qualifications Framework.  The training that students receive reflects specific industry competency standards.

Lavalla Catholic College has arrangements in place with a variety of Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s) to ensure we can offer a wide range of VET subjects to our students. The majority of VET subjects run over 2 years.

A key success of VET is the integration of vocational (occupation focused) options within the traditionally academic studies at the senior secondary school level. VET programs allow students to:

  • Develop job industry specific skills
  • Gain nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications and units of competency while still completing their VCE or VCAL
  • Develop employability skills and an understanding of the world of work, and;
  • Gain valuable experience to assist with planning and pursuing their career pathways.
