Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is the hands on approach to learning for some Years 11 and 12 students.

VCAL is taught by teams of teachers at Lavalla Catholic College and its flexible delivery allows for students to create their own study program to suit their interests and learning needs.

VCAL is a program that gives practical work-related experience in and out of the classroom. Courses and mini projects are completed to develop the students work-ready attitude.

There are 4 compulsory strands of VCAL:

  • Literacy and Numeracy Skills;
  • Work Related Skills;
  • Industry Specific Skills;
  • Personal Development Skills.

Students may complete any VCE English or any VCE Mathematics subject instead of VCAL Numeracy or Literacy.

Students who choose to do VCAL are likely to be focused on training at TAFE, doing an apprenticeship/traineeship or getting a job after completing school.
