Staff Development

Ms Lee McKenzieLavalla Catholic College is a learning community and proactively engages staff in all areas of the College in appropriate levels of training and development. Staff members at the College have many opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in their chosen area through in-house training and attending externally offered training. This enables all members of staff to be current in their information and approach to their tasks.

Teaching in particular, is intellectual, spiritual and emotional work. Professional Learning is vital in all these areas. Teaching staff and teaching assistants are encouraged and supported to explore new techniques, theories or programs. The College also ensures attendance at information sessions regarding specific subject, VCE, VET or VCAL information.

Programs and/or guest speakers which deal with cultural issues eg. understanding current adolescent psychology or the effects on learning of social class, form part of the broader components of professional learning which are offered to staff across the College.

Lavalla prides itself on the spiritual nurturing of staff through daily prayer, special Liturgies, school Masses and Retreats. Staff can also access spirituality programs which foster their continued journey.
