Faith and Ministry

Mr Michael HansenLavalla Catholic College responds to its mission by offering a particular cultural experience that is grounded in "… a Christian view of the world, of culture, and of history."

This translates to a Christ-centred orientation that permeates all aspects of school life including relationships, structures, liturgies, celebrations and routines, as well as the formal curriculum.

Its identity flows from the principles of Catholic Social Justice, grounded in the person of Jesus and interpreted and enacted for the common good in response to the signs of the times. These principles require that the dignity and potential of each person be fully respected within a climate that is conducive to peace, security and personal development. This must find expression in the relationships, structures, curricula, planning, process and care in the everyday life of the school.

Embedded in this Catholic world view, Lavalla Catholic College endeavours to display certain fundamental and distinguishing characteristics. These include commitment to:

  • being grounded in the local Christian community that is centred on the person of Jesus and guided by Gospel values;
  • a fostering of the total development of all its students;
  • participating in the evangelising mission of the Church;
  • assisting students to integrate their faith, their culture and their experiences of life;
  • displaying a fundamental option for the poor and weak;
  • offering to be of service to individuals, society and the wider culture;
  • transforming society, hastening the Reign of God announced by Jesus;
  • being committed to ecological conversion; and
  • promoting the charism of Saint Marcellin Champagnat

Lavalla Catholic College provides a curriculum, indeed a total cultural experience, within which students have many opportunities to hear the Good News and to respond to the person and message of Jesus.

Within the context of the school year and the Church's Liturgical Cycle, students have a variety of opportunities to experience and participate in significant liturgies. Such liturgical celebrations enable the school community to express its relationship with God and with one another. They are central to the expression of the school community's identity within the local Parishes and the Diocese of Sale, and of Bishop Jeremiah Coffey.

Lavalla Catholic College attempts to focus on educating the whole person so that the total educational experience offered has the potential to inform, form and transform our students.
