Faith & Ministry
"To read someone’s heart, watch their hands and feet."
This expression encapsulates the essence of what it is that we attempt to accomplish within our Catholic educational community, modelled on Jesus Christ.
In the swirl of growth toward adulthood, the search for meaning in troubled times, and the testing grasp for authentic centres of authority, our college endeavours to offer a clear and unambiguous example of what it means to live as Christian people today.
When the latest television programme declares who is out or in, our college expresses and lives out Christ’s preferential option for the poor and vulnerable through its ministry options and its solidarity with them.
When those in the community criticise our lack of faith, our senior RE students in Youth Retreat Teams can be found working in partnership with our Catholic Primary Schools, leading younger students in First Communion and Confirmation retreats.
Where the world offers a bewildering smorgasbord of options from the spiritual delicatessen, our College, through the relevance of our formal classroom programmes, draws upon the deep wisdom of our Catholic identity.
Where there are those who lament the self-centred nature of our youth, we celebrate the joy of community living through our comprehensive retreat programme and together proclaim the powerful presence of a loving God who believes in us and calls us forward.
Where the heroes of this world often win acclaim because of what they have and how powerful they are in the public eye, our College holds forward a Holy Child and a Blessed Mother as models of compassion and gentleness.
Where many yearn for the participation of more youth in our Sunday liturgies, the hearts of one hundred adolescents in our Liturgical Choir pour out their praises and open their hearts to the mystery of suffering and the power of the cross in community liturgies of healing, grief and loss.
Where some would claim that Catholic schools are losing their way and their Catholic identity, we would proclaim from our hearts the Christian message of hope… where each is seen as an individual, a person with a name, with dignity, with worth as a child of the Father.
Where a busy world would proclaim that there is little time for God, through our public liturgy and careful attention to the rhythm of the Christian story we ‘keep the rumour of God alive’ and offer opportunities to ‘hear whispers from another world’.
To read someone’s heart, watch their hands and feet.
