Bishop Christopher Prowse blesses Memorial Garden
Bishop Christopher Prowse visited the Kildare Campus of Lavalla Catholic College as part of his first official visit to the College. Bishop Prowse began his visit at the Presentation Campus in Newborough and met the students and staff at that campus. He then travelled to the Traralgon Campuses, where he was at the Kildare Campus to bless a memorial garden in memory of members of the Lavalla community who had passed away. Bishop Prowse concluded his visit at the St. Paul's Campus in the afternoon
Brooke Ward wins prestigious award
Brooke Ward, Year 11 student at Lavalla Catholic College, has won the
Alfred Atherton Award (from the Master Plumbers and Mechanical Services Associations) and will be presented with her prize on Wednesday, July 15, at the Melbourne Town Hall. The Alfred Atherton Award is presented to students from Victorian Secondary Colleges who have achieved at above the average standard for Year 10 in 2008, and who are continuing to maintain a high standard in Year 11. The Master Plumbers and Mechanical Services Associations provide such a prestigious award especially for secondary students wishing to advance their studies. She wins $450.
Brooke was successful ahead of many other entries. The College would like to congratulate Brooke on achieving such a prestigious award and extends its thanks to all her teachers.
Ryan Hosken wins ADF Scholarship
Ryan Hosken was a recipient of the Australian Defence Forces Scholarship, which aims to raise awareness of trade opportunities within the ADF and provide financial support to students interested in pursuing an ADF technical trade career. Ryan will receive $1500 to assist with the completion of his senior school education. He was successful ahead of strong competition.
Ryan was required to demonstrate leadership to a high standard; show that he is a strong team player whose contribution is highly regarded; shows strong regard for the values of the school and community; can be relied upon to produce comprehensive and workable solutions to problems; be a self-starter who can act independently with competence and authority; can effectively communicate in a clear, concise and articulate manner; works hard to ensure harmonious working environments; actively engages in community activities; and holds leadership positions.
